Bhaktas can seek Bhagavan's Krishna'sa help , when required

For those Bhaktas who have taken *SharanAgathi* at the lotus feet of their Ishta-deva Sri Krishna , the latest authentic reference book is Srimad Narayaneeyam . This divine book has the personal stamp of approval by Bhagavan Sri Krishna .

It's author Sri Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri says frankly to Bhagavan in the book's Dasakam 3 slokam 2-3 :

" Oh Bhagavan Vishnu ! Plagued as I am by diseases both physical and mental , I am unable to turn my mind towards You. Please have pity on me and help me to sit peacefully in some quiet place chanting Your innumerable names and worshipping Your lotus feet . Nothing is impossible for one who has been blessed by You. Innumerable Bhaktas of Yourself have been liberated from their sorrows and worldly ties by Your mercy. Can I not be one such fortunate devotee of You ?"

The above teaches us that , a true Krishna-Bhakta has the freedom to inform Bhagavan about his personal problems . Such a person has personal obligations which are to be fulfilled by him . Since he is the servant of Bhagavan, he is under Bhagavan's protection.

An Atheist who has no faith in Bhagavan, is without divine protection . He is not guided by the Vedic injunctions ( literary form of Bhagavan) . The activities which he considers as fair , may not necessarily be complying with Bhagavan's directives . Two typical examples are Mr.Jawaharlal Nehru and Sri Sardar Patel ( India 's first prime minister and Home minister respectively ) . Though Nehru was a gentleman , he was an Atheist , whose "non-vedic" enemy-appeasing policies like that of Kashmir issue have harmed India in the long run . On the other hand , the veda following Patelji performed his *Raja-dharma* in typical Sri Krishna style . Most notable is Patelji's bold action to unify Indian nation by merging numerous tiny kingdoms .

Bhagavan Sri Krishna says in Gita , Chapter 9, Sloka 11-12 : " When I appear in My human-like form, foolish people with mundane intelligence disrespect Me, because they cannot know My nature as the Supreme God of the entire universe. The hopes of such foolish people for liberation, their fruitful actions and their culture of knowledge all go in vain. Thus, with their minds distracted, they adopt the deluded nature of Atheists and Asuras (Demons)".

Bhagavan Krishna is the Supreme Guru

Many ordinary Bhaktas are scared that they do not have any initiation from a Guru ; and therefore they may not be able to progress in Bhakti-yoga . It is true that a genuine Guru facilitates a spiritual aspirant to have express enlightenment . In this era of globalization and fast track life all around, such dedicated Vaishnava Gurus are not easily available to every Bhakta . Therefore, it is necessary to make best use of the available Satsang opportunities which are Bhagavan Sri Krishna's gift .

Bhagavan Krishna says in Srimad Bhagavad Gita , 10.9-11 , "Those whose minds are fixed on Me and whose lives are surrendered to Me, derive great satisfaction from enlightening one another about My greatness and speaking about Me . Those whose minds are devoted to Me worship Me with great joy. I Myself give to them the Yoga of wisdom, by which they can come to Me. Only out of compassion for these devotees, I dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge, the darkness born of ignorance."

From the above instruction of Bhagavan Krishna, it is clear that the Devotees should enlighten each other about Bhagavan . And it is Bhagavan's responsibility to bestow knowledge to His Bhaktas .

What matters to Sri Krishna is the Devotee's Bhakti and nothing else . Bhagavan Sri Krishna has personally stated at Guruvayoor temple , "Bhakti is dearer to Me than Vibhakti (knowledge) . I am not only *Amaraprabhu* ( Eternal Lord) but *Maraprabhu* ( Lord of trees) as well " .

Therefore , let us give a free hand to all Bhaktas to express themselves . Their innocent responses are nectar to Bhagavan .

Arjuna asked 'does he not, fallen from both, perish, without support?'

Bhagavan reassured Arjuna, and all of us: The 'doer of good never comes to grief ... one fallen from Yoga reincarnates in the home of the pure and the prosperous.'

Arjuna said:
37. Though possessed of Shraddhaa but unable to control himself, with the mind wandering away from Yoga, what end does one, failing to gain perfection in Yoga, meet, O Krishna?
38. Does he not, fallen from both, perish, without support, like a rent cloud, O mighty-armed, deluded in the path of Brahman?

39. This doubt of mine, O Krishna, Thou shouldst completely dispel; for it is not possible for any but Thee to dispel this doubt.

The Blessed Lord said:
40. Verily, O son of Prithaa, there is destruction for him, neither here nor hereafter: for, the doer of good, O my son, never comes to grief.

41. Having attained to the worlds of the righteous, and dwelling there for everlasting years, one fallen from Yoga reincarnates in the home of the pure and the prosperous.

42. Or else he is born into a family of wise Yogis only; verily, a birth such as that is very rare to obtain in this world.


43. There he is united with the intelligence acquired in his former body, and strives more than before, for perfection, O son of the Kurus.
And, in Chapter 4:

36. Even if thou be the most sinful among all the sinful, yet by the raft of knowledge alone thou shalt go across all sin.

37. As blazing fire reduces wood into ashes, so, O Arjuna, does the fire of knowledge reduce all Karma to ashes.

Finally, in Chapter 9:

30. If even a very wicked person worships Me, with devotion to none else, he should be regarded as good, for he has rightly resolved.
31. Soon does he become righteous, and attain eternal Peace, O son of Kunti boldly canst thou proclaim, that My devotee is never destroyed.

The above does not imply you can do evil and escape the consequences, or that you can do bad things and then suddenly, in your deathbed, shout the name of Bhagavan, and presto! all is well and your slate is wiped clean. Banish such thoughts. The Eternal Law of Karma applies to all.
But Bhagavan is not there looking over our shoulders, 24/7, angry and vindicative, ready to hurl us into hell and brimstone for our failures and imperfections.
Swami Chinmayananda ji addresses this issue in his GITA commentary:
" Vedanta is not a philosophy that heartlessly keeps the sinners out of it halls of wisdom. It does not believe there is any lost soul who will ever wander among the heathens, and who can only be redeemed if he enters the portals of the Church of Vedanta.
The all-pervading Divine manifests everywhere and therefore, there is no sinner who cannot, through his endeavour, come to claim his own heritage of Absolute Perfection. The Gita is a scripture of life written for man and it assures man that "even if he be the mot sinful among the sinful," he too can cross over his painful destinies of the present and reach the shores that lie beyond finitude and imperfections. '
To summarize, the GITA tells us: Do not be troubled by setbacks and imperfections; strive for perfection and you shall succeed.

Result of failing to know Bhagavan Sri Krishna

Hare Krishna ! Pranams to Bhagavan Sri Krishna and Bhaktas,

Failing to have enough faith in Bhagavan Sri Krishna, or in getting to know Him, is not quite the same as you might find in some other faiths or religions wherein they say you will go to eternal hell if you are a non-believer, or you are an infidel worthy of death, or whatever. But failing to investigate Him and realize what is our final destination is considered a waste of this particular life. Bhagavan Krishna Himself explains:

· "One may be well versed in all the transcendental literature of the Vedas, but if he fails to be acquainted with the Supreme, then it must be concluded that all of his education is like the burden of a beast or like one's keeping a cow without milking capacity." (Bhagavatam. 11.11.18) .

· "Those who worship the Devas will take birth among the Devas ; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; those who worship ancestors go to the ancestors; and those who worship Me will live with Me." (Gita .9.25)

In this way we can begin to see the futility of following some materialistic path or a secondary spiritual method without the process for reaching an understanding of Bhagavan Krishna. "Among all the eternal, conscious beings, there is One who supplies the needs of everyone else. The wise who worship Him in His abode attain everlasting peace. Others cannot." (Katha Upanishad 2.2.13).

In this way, a person is allowed to proceed through life in the way he or she wants. Bhagavan Krishna allows each person to develop in their own way, and to continue wandering throughout the universe and through various activities until they begin to wonder about the purpose of life, or become ready for a deep spiritual path. Materialistic activities are not the way to find everlasting peace, and most of us need to discover that for ourselves. However, a person cannot be helped until he or she is ready. So, until then, they may be offered the spiritual knowledge they need, but they must decide for themselves how much of it they wish to utilize. Just as when Sri Krishna spoke the whole Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna, at the end of it He asked Arjuna what he wished to do. He had to make up his own mind. He was not forced to do anything. In the same way, we can only offer this knowledge for the benefit of humanity, and they can decide what they wish to do, or how long they wish to continue their existence in the material worlds.

"They are truly ignorant who, while imprisoned within the ceaseless flow of this world's material qualities, fail to know You (Sri Krishna) , the Supreme Soul of all that be, as their ultimate, sublime destination. Because of their ignorance, the entanglement of material work forces such souls to wander in the cycle of birth and death." (Bhagavatam. 10.85.15)

Therefore, regardless of what else we do, we should recognize how advantageous it is to add the process of engaging in devotional service to Bhagavan Krishna in this lifetime. We may not even be able to become perfect at it, but it nonetheless accelerates our spiritual development. Otherwise, regardless of what else we have accomplished materially, our life remains incomplete. "Caught in the grip of ignorance, self-proclaimed experts consider themselves learned authorities. They wander about this world befooled, like the blind leading the blind." (Katha Upanishad 1.2.5)

It is only through this spiritual education that we can understand our real identity and transcendental nature beyond the body and all material activities. Without that, we remain ignorant of our true potential and the final shelter that is awaiting us in the spiritual domain.

Bhaktas must place full confidence in Bhagavan Sri Krishna

The prosperity or adversity a person experiences depends on the noble deeds or sinful acts he had committed . Based on this theory, even good Bhaktas are found to be immersed in grief, while unscrupulous persons are seen enjoying comforts which they may not deserve. But the Bhaktas will take steps to get their problems solved through ardent prayers to their Ishta-deva . On His part, Bhagavan Sri Krishna when worshipped as Ishta-deva, is ever willing to help His Bhaktas.


It is absolutely certain that those who remain devoted to Bhagavan will be enabled to get over the complicated problems. Prayers are bound to diminish their anguish. The caprices of wicked likewise will be short lived, particularly when they continue to ridicule Bhagavan. Bhagavan is ready to welcome into His fold and embrace any one who repents for his sinful acts and seeks His guidance. Sanatana Dharma highlights this aspect that the only way to get rid of our sins and to obtain redemption is to repose unflinching confidence in Bhagavan and beg His protection. The greatness of Hinduism lies in that its strength is derived from Vedas which have delineated Bhagavan and have suggested the study of scriptural texts to realise Bhagavan.


Among them, Srimad Bhagavatam is considered outstanding as it brings out the essence of Bhakti (Vedopanishadam sarath jatha Bhagavathi katha) - meaning Bhagavatam has emanated from the essence of the Vedas and the Upanishad. Those who listen to its exposition will derive peace as their minds will be cleansed of all impurities and they will desist from committing sins (Janmantare bhaveth punyam Thada Bhagavatam Labheth)- meaning, one gets to hear Srimad Bhagavatam only when there is virtue earned in one's past lives. (Srimadbhagavati varta suranamapi durlabha)- meaning Srimad Bhagavatam is a rarity even for the Gods). It was the final work of Vyasa Maharishi and deals with forms of Bhakti exhibited by eminent devotees who had realized Bhagavan .


Bhagavatam with Kunti Stuti in which she makes a strange appeal to Bhagavan Sri Krishna - to keep her ever immersed in grief to ensure her that she would not forget Him, ends with Markandeya Stuti.


In Kali era, where moral decadence and decline of spiritual values make people stray away from the path of virtue, the only solution is to study Bhagavatam. (Kalau thu kevala Bhaktirbrahmasayujy akarini)- meaning in Kali however, Bhakti alone effects unity with Bhagavan .

Bhagavan Krishna became , Kururamma's Son .....( A true Event )

Kururamma was a pious Brahmin lady . She became a widow at the tender age of (16) . Being childless , she was destined to live in solitude . But Kurooramma faced the life, by taking refuge in `Ishta Devata' Sri Krishna

Various Devotees involve with Sri Krishna in different ways such as the `prema-bhakti' (love) of Gopikas or Dasya-bhakti ( servitude) of Uddava or Sakhya-bhakti ( friendship) of Arjuna . Kururamma like Yeshoda had motherly love towards Krishna .

After becoming widow , Kuruarmma's routine included an early morning Bath followed by works in the kitchen , worship in Guruvayoor temple on every monday , Ekadasi fasting and …. Constant Nama-japam . In fact , the nama-japam became just like breathing ; and it elevated her to the highest level of bhakti-yoga .

Years passed . Kururamma became aged . All her relatives died one after the other and she was alone . Kururamma became aware that she has none except Krishna . She prayed for Him ardently . One day , Bhagavan appeared and asked what boon she wanted . Kurururamma prayed with folded hands :

" O Krishna ! I don't have anyone . You be with me always . Don't abandon me like Yashoda " .

Bhagavan smiled , nodded His head and disappeared .

Soon, an orphan Brahmin kid called "Unni" came to Kururamma . He was a very mischievous child and he helped her in the household works .

"Unni" was Sri Krishna Himself . But due to His Yoga-maya , Kururamma could see Him only as her child . Since Unni's arrival , she lived in great joy , loving and chastising him as own child .

Vilwangalam swami (Bilwamangalam Takura) was the renowned Vaishnava Acharya of that period . He was famous for performing Puja by seeing Sri Krishna in front .

It was Kurooramma's great wish to have one such Puja performed at her home by Vilwangalam Swami . She requested the Acharya with great humility and he agreed .

Unfortunately , Kururamma had an envious neighbor called `Chemmangatt Amma' who was immensely rich and influential . When heard about this Puja , Chemmangatt Amma took it as an opportunity to humiliate Kururamma . She used her influence to cancel Vilwangalam' s commitment to Kururamma and booked that Puja for herself . Poor Kururamma was unaware of this sabotage .

On the dawn of the Puja, Kururamma was washing her cloths in the nearby tank . A few drops of water unintentionally fell upon , Chemmangatt Amma who had finished her bath. She felt polluted and took a second plunge in water to purify. She sarcastically told Kururamma :

" Hey Widow , now I am doubly clean . Today , Villwamangalam is coming to my house for doing Puja " .

Kururamma was shocked to hear this and she said :

" But, Vilwamangalam Swamy has already promised to perform Puja at my home today " .

Chemmangatt Amma and her arrogant servants laughed at Kururamma and made fun of her . Kururamma was greatly hurt by this public humiliation . Soon after reaching home , she sent a person to Vilwamangalam' s home to confirm Swami's Puja . But Vilwamangalam apologetically refused saying he couldn't upset the powerful Chemmangatt family .

Kururamma was heartbroken when she heard about this refusal . But , Unni pacified her by assuring that Vilwamangalam will come for Puja as agreed before .

Kururamma believed Unni . But she lamented :

" O Unni ! Because of that confusion , I didn't make any arrangements for the puja . I don't know what needs to be done . You see, Vilwamangalam Swamy is a Mahatma and therefore we shouldn't upset Him . O Bhagavan, I really messed up everything and I don't know what to do now !! ".

Unni consoled her :

"Mother , don't worry at all . I will do all the needful now itself . You , just take rest . "

He quickly completed all jobs such as cleaning the floor, washing the Puja-instruments and utensils, bringing flowers and other Puja-materials , preparation of food offerings for the puja, etc, etc .

After his daily worship, Villwamangalam started for Chemmangatt Amma's house for the Puja . But the pilot who was to lead his way by blowing conch (shankh) to announce his presence could not produce any sound from his conch . It was a bad omen and Villwamangalam was bewildered . Then he remembered his failure to keep up the promise to Kururamma . And he decided that it is Bhagavan's wish that he should go to Kururamma's house to do Puja there . On this thought itself, the conch started functioning and filled the air with its resonant sound . The Acharya then started his journey towards Kururamma's house .

Vilwanagalam and His Sisyas (Brahmachari- disciples) finally arrived at Kururamma's home . According to tradition , a Brahmin lady should not talk direct to any man other than her husband . Hence, hiding behind the door , Kururamma asked Unni to welcome Vilwamanagalam Swami .

When Unni welcomed , Vilwamangalam looked at him ; but due to `Maya" he couldn't recognize Bhagavan .

After taking bath , Vilwamangalam got ready for the Puja .

Meanwhile , his Sisyas were standing amazed . They are the ones who prepare items for the Puja because none else knows it's requirements . But, alas ! this midget Kid has arranged everything perfectly . They stared at Unni enviously . And he gladly teased them by winking .

Vilwamangalam was pleased by the perfect arrangements in place . While touching the Puja-materials, a divine bliss filled his heart .

The Puja commenced . At first, the seat was sanctified for seating Bhagavan . Then the invoking of Sri Krishna . Swami closed his eyes and meditated Bhagavan . While Vilwamangalam was invoking Krishna with great concentration, Unni stood straight in front . Seeing this , the shocked Sisyas were facing a dilemma and they whispered each other :

" This fool is standing in front of Acharya . How can we inform this to Him ? . See… the flowers offered are falling on his feet !…..'

They tried to push out Unni . But , He stood His ground firm and the offered flowers kept on falling at His feet . Vilwanangalam Swami opened his eyes to see Sri Krishna on the offered seat , as usual . But here couldn't see Bhagavan and only Unni was standing in front . Vilwamangalam was annoyed . As ordered by him, Unni was moved from there to a corner . And then the invoking re-commenced .

Again the offered flowers kept on falling at the feet of Unni , though he was standing in the corner . Immediately , Vilwamangalam Swami realized that this helper of Kururamma is Bhagavan Himself . He looked at Unni again …. and there He was !

` Bhagavan Sri Krishna in all His Suprmeme Glory '!!!!!

Vilwamangalam tried to rush forward to prostrate . But Bhagavan stopped him with a gesture which meant :

" Keep this as secret . Let Me continue as Kururamma's Unni ".

The Puja ended auspiciously and Vilwamangalam departed with his Sisyas . Kururamma was extremely happy . However, she made a comment to Unni :

" Hey Unni ! I wonder why Vilwamangalam Swamy repeatedly bowed down to both of us and cried while leaving " .

Unni's only response was his mind-captivating smile which filled `Sat-Chit-Anandam ' in Kururamma's heart .

Nine Ways to Please Bhagavan Sri Krishna

ways to please Bhagavan Sri Krishna (Maha-Vishnu) :

sravanam kirtanam visnoh

smaranam pada-sevanam

arcanam vandanam dasyam

sakhyam atma-nivedanam

iti pumsarpita visnau

bhaktis cen nava-laksana

kriyeta bhagavaty addha

tan manye 'dhitam uttamam

( Hearing and chanting about the transcendental holy name, form, qualities, paraphernalia and pastimes of Bhagavan Vishnu , remembering them, serving the lotus feet of the Bhagavan, offering the Bhagavan respectful worship with sixteen types of paraphernalia, offering prayers to the Bhagavan , becoming His servant, considering the Bhagavan one's best friend, and surrendering everything unto Him (in other words, serving Him with the body, mind and words) -- these nine processes are accepted as pure Bhakti-yoga (Devotional service) .

One who has dedicated his life to the service of Bhagavan through these nine methods should be understood to be the most learned person, for he has acquired complete spiritual knowledge.)
